About Us
Shawn’s Bridal and Formal Shoppe, formally the Bridal and Formal Shoppe, is located on the east side of Kirksville’s Historic downtown Square. Owned and operated by Shawn Wichmann since its opening in 1988, Shawn’s Bridal and Formal Shoppe offers a quaint setting for your once in a lifetime experience.
Our motto “Something Old, Something New” describes the eclectic contrast of tin ceilings, vintage chandeliers and old fashioned service to a collection of modern gown styles from a variety of well known, sought after designers.
The expertise we offer expands beyond the scope of gowns, tuxedoes and accessories for weddings, proms and galas. Our specialty is to “finish the look” with a custom fitting. The complete alteration process, from pinning to sewing to pressing and steaming is all done in-house.
About Shawn
Hi! I’m Shawn Wichmann and I opened The Bridal and Formal Shoppe on January 16, 1988 after working at a local bridal shop in Kirksville while working toward a degree in Clothing and Textiles and Retailing and minor in Business Administration and Marketing from Northeast Missouri State University (currently Truman State University). I received the outstanding senior award in my major and taught a fashion display and promotion class at NMSU for two years.
We have worked from the same historic building on Kirksville’s courthouse square from day one, slowly renovating the space to accommodate our wonderful customers while enhancing the beauty of this great, historic building. We are so proud to serve the people of Kirksville and the surrounding area. My store has been coined “a diamond in the ruff.” To have customers recommend this store and send their family and friends from great distances is truly a compliment I am proud of.
My sewing background and education became a natural fit in the bridal industry in Kirksville at the age of 22 years old (I have spent over half of my life working with brides and I am still learning every day). Quickly, I realized there is a need for a thorough fitting process to accompany a bridal gown sale and luckily had the sewing background and firm desire to offer the best after-the-sale service available in the bridal industry. In 2008 after celebrating our 20th anniversary, I was awarded the Ruby Green/ Frank Baldwin Free Enterprise Award by our local Optimist Club. I was elated to be recognized by such an esteemed group of citizens. Now, at almost 24 years young, I am reintroducing this relic as Shawn’s Bridal and Formal Shoppe to mirror the innovative strides that keep this institution relevant in today’s bridal industry.
Please stop in and say HI! My friendly and helpful staff will tend to your every need. I try to be on the floor to greet my wonderful customers as much as possible, but if you don’t see me, listen to the hum of the sewing machine, and be assured you and your gown will receive the attention they deserve.
